The upheaval of 2020 has been so much for so many. More than we could ever know. It's only by stories shared that we can learn and take steps towards change.
INNX has proudly supported a fundraising event on the 21st of November 2020, a passion project by one of our founders Shane and wife Agnes to help support the porters of Mt Kilimanjaro.
This group of people have been further pushed into poverty with tourism shutdowns leading Shane and Agnes to host a night where you could experience the smallest glimpses of life as a porter and to raise funds that will go straight into their pockets.
The Tip a Porter campaign ended on a high with a real-life Kilimanjaro experience hosted at INNX, Parry St. Guests were greeted at the door with canapés of Trail Mix, dehydrated hiking meals for dinner and hydrolites instead of wine.
The walls of INNX were filled with tents, movie projections and a real life Kilimanjaro kit on display set the backdrop for an uphill water carry. Setting the treadmill at it’s maximum 18% incline and loading up the guests with a lighter than normal load of 10kg, this experience very quickly highlighted the strength and endurance the porters of Kilimanjaro really are.
For us, this looked like a chance to try and encourage others who were planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2020 to pay forward their tips and help the porters. The funds were used to purchase basic supplies for the crews and their families.
